Hi, We’re the Mathews
For several years, Ashish and Diane have sensed a "tug" to start a new church in Yonkers. Having grown up in Yonkers and the Bronx, Ashish and Diane believe God wants to do something new, and they're excited to be part of it!
Ashish, a third-culture kid raised in Saudi Arabia's underground churches, had a radical encounter with Jesus at the age of 13 and has been passionate about others meeting Jesus ever since. Diane met Jesus during her high school years, and committed to following Him into vocational ministry in college. Ashish and Diane served as college pastors with InterVarsity in NYC. They also served as Associate Pastors at Ridgeway Church in White Plains, NY, before sensing God's call to plant Seven Hills Church. They both have their Masters of Divinity in Hebrew Bible. Ashish and Diane are ordained and licensed with the C&MA.
When they're not serving the church, they love taking spontaneous trips to Trader Joe's with their two daughters.

What kind of church are you?
We want to keep the main thing the main thing: to love God and love people. We’re a part of the Christian & Missionary Alliance. We affirm the historical Nicene creed and Apostles creed as well as the Lausanne Covenant.
What if I’m skeptical about faith?
We’ve intentionally started Seven Hills Church to make room for you to explore faith. Check out ALPHA, a series of fun dinner & group conversation evenings centered around exploring the big questions of life, spirituality, and faith in a laid back & non-judgmental environment. You are welcome here!
Who can be a part of Seven Hills?
We’re committed to being a diverse church of people from different spiritual, cultural, socioeconomic and generational backgrounds. There’s room for you!
Are you a political church?
No, we’ve got people on all sides of the aisle. We believe politics are an important opportunity to shape human flourishing in our society. We want to be a mature church allowing for and disagreeing with differing viewpoints.
Are you a Bible church or a Holy Spirit church?
We’re a church that both views highly the authority of the scriptures and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. We believe that we need both the word and the spirit to live into all that God’s called us to be.
Why Yonkers?
We’re called to plant Seven Hills Church in Yonkers as a new regional and diverse church for many reasons.
Yonkers: A Hub of Diversity and Growth
Yonkers is the third largest city in New York State, situated just north of New York City along the Hudson River. People from various ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds call Yonkers and the surrounding areas home, creating a vibrant mosaic of perspectives and experiences. Despite this, Yonkers has seen a decline in strong faith communities over the years. The diminishing presence of local churches has left a gap in the community, especially for folks and families looking for support systems that foster spiritual and personal growth.
Seven Hills Church aims to address this spiritual and social gap. As a regional church, its reach extends beyond Yonkers, serving neighboring towns like Hastings-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Scarsdale, Edgemont, Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Bronxville, Riverdale, The Bronx and Beyond. This reflects the church's mission to create a place where people of all backgrounds, neighborhoods and walks of life can come together.
Addressing the Spiritual Needs of Yonkers
One of the primary reasons Seven Hills Church chose Yonkers as the location for its plant is the city’s unmet spiritual needs. Yonkers is a city in transition, with families navigating the pressures of modern life, economic challenges, and the search for meaning and community. While there are many social services and resources available, the spiritual needs of the people in the region are often overlooked.
Strengthening the Community Through Service
One of the cornerstones of Seven Hills Church's mission is community service. Yonkers faces dynamic needs such as economic disparity, food insecurity, and under-resourced schools. Recognizing these needs, the church is committed to being a tangible source of help for the community.
For example, the church has already started initiatives like a backpack giveaway, providing over 250 backpacks to families to start the school year. These acts of service are part of a larger vision to build long-term relationships with the community and help individuals thrive.
By planting a church in Yonkers, Seven Hills Church seeks to be more than just a building. It aims to be a vital part of the social fabric, contributing to the well-being of the city and its surrounding towns.
Creating a Space for All
Yonkers’ rich diversity is one of its greatest strengths, but it also presents challenges for faith communities. People come from a variety of religious, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and many may feel disconnected from faith and faith spaces. Seven Hills Church is intentionally designed to be a space where people from all walks of life feel welcomed to explore faith.
No matter your faith background, you are welcome at Seven Hills Church. Whether you’ve grown up in church, are returning after time away, or are exploring faith for the first time, the church offers a judgment-free space to take your next step. This openness is critical in a city like Yonkers, where many residents are searching for belonging but may not have found it in traditional institutions.
Seven Hills Church embraces this diversity as a reflection of its community and sees it as an opportunity to grow together. The church is intergenerational and culturally diverse, offering a unique space where people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences can come together. This inclusivity is what makes Seven Hills Church stand out in Yonkers.
A Vision for the Future
Yonkers is a city full of potential, and the need for strong communities of faith is greater than ever. Seven Hills Church has planted itself here because it believes that a thriving church can be a catalyst for personal transformation and broader community renewal. By focusing on spiritual growth, community service, and inclusivity, the church is positioning itself to be a pillar in Yonkers and the surrounding towns.
Planting a church in Yonkers is more than just adding another church to the map—it’s about responding to the needs of a community that is ready for revival, renewal, and restoration. As Seven Hills Church grows, its vision remains clear: to be a place where people of all backgrounds can come together, find hope, and make a difference in their community.
Yonkers is a city with a rich history and a promising future, but it needs strong, faith-based communities to support its growth. By planting a church here, Seven Hills Church is stepping into a vital role, bringing a fresh perspective and a commitment to meeting the spiritual and practical needs of the region.
